Breaking News: Ten Confirmed Dead in Stampede During Food Distribution at Holy Trinity Church, Abuja


A stampede during a food-sharing event at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Maitama, on Saturday, December 21, 2024, has left ten people dead, including four children, and injured eight others. The incident occurred at approximately 6:30 am while food was being distributed to vulnerable and elderly individuals.

Four of the injured victims have been treated and discharged, while the remaining are still receiving medical care.


The FCT Police Command, through its spokesperson SP Josephine Adeh, confirmed the tragedy and extended condolences to the families of the deceased while wishing the injured a speedy recovery.


To prevent such occurrences in the future, the Command has mandated all organizations, religious groups, or individuals planning public events, charitable activities, or large gatherings in the FCT to notify the Police in advance. This would enable the deployment of appropriate security measures to ensure public safety.



Non-compliance with this directive may result in organizers being held accountable for any loss of life or incidents resulting from negligence.
